The Faculty of English Language and Literature will admit candidates to the Postgraduate Programme "English Language, Linguistics and Translation", Specialization: Linguistics: Theory and Applications, whose courses begin in October 2025. The duration of the programme is three (3) academic semesters and attendance of the courses is compulsory. Successful completion of the Postgraduate Programme leads to the award of a Master of Arts (MA).

- Number of admissions: 15 (fifteen) maximum
The following candidates are eligible for admittance to the MA:
(a) Graduates of English Language and Literature departments of Greek universities.
(b) Graduates of other departments of Greek universities, provided that they demonstrate they have sufficiently covered basic fields of Linguistics. A certificate or
other evidence of excellent knowledge of English is also required.
(c) Holders of an equivalent degree from equivalent and recognised departments of foreign universities in related subjects which adequately cover basic Linguistics subjects. A certificate or other evidence of excellent knowledge of English is also required.
(d) Students completing the 8th semester of studies provided that they submit a certificate of completion of studies before the start of the programme.
It is noted that the teaching, assignments, presentation of papers, written and oral examinations and the MA Thesis are conducted in English.
Criteria for candidate selection
Selection criteria are:
- Success in the written exam (pass mark: 6/10) and the performance of the candidates in the written exam (70% of the total marks). The examination syllabus is announced in the Study Guide uploaded on the Faculty's website during the application period of new postgraduate students.
- The performance of the candidates in the oral exam (30% of the total marks), with questions on the examination syllabus, in which those who pass the written examination participate.
- BA grade "Very Good". A lower grade may be accepted if candidates have a "Very Good" grade in courses or a BA dissertation relevant to the Postgraduate Program, or if they have acquired a second degree, another postgraduate title, research experience or have written a detailed research paper.
- The following qualifications are taken into account with respect to the final mark of the oral examination (5% of the oral examination mark):
- Grades of undergraduate courses relevant to postgraduate specialization.
- Experience with scientific projects relevant to the postgraduate programme (e.g. seminars, participation in research projects, publications, etc.).
- Excellent knowledge of the English Language is mandatory. Good knowledge of other languages is appreciated;
- Recommendation letters;
- Relevant professional experience and knowledge of new technologies.
Submission of applications
All prospective students need to submit the following documentation:
- An application form (application form available online here).
- A full CV (please fill in the special form available online here). In cases of disability, also provide relevant certificate from the Primary Health Committee.
- A scanned photocopy of their identity card or passport.
- A scanned copy of the BA degree or a study completion attestation by the Secretariat of the Department.
- Scanned copies of other related higher education qualifications.
- Full record of university course grades.
- Two recommendation letters in a special form (available online at the website of the Department) by the candidates' instructors in undergraduate or postgraduate courses. Alternatively, one letter of recommendation may come from an employer of related employment. Letters of recommendation will be submitted directly by the Professors (and the employer, as mentioned above) to the Faculty Secretariat, at the email address secr@enl.uoa.gr
- Academic publications, if any.
- Evidence of professional or research activity, if any.
- Certification of knowledge of English (C2 level "excellent knowledge") for graduates from other departments than the departments of English Language and Literature.
- Scanned copies of certificates of knowledge of other languages (other than Greek and English), if available.
- Additional research or literature review papers, relevant to the MA, which have been graded in the context of undergraduate or postgraduate studies related to the respective specialization of the MA.

Applications submitted before the deadline will receive a confirmation email with a registration number.
