Deadline Extension for applications and recommendation letters: 9 May 2025
The School of Medicine and the Departments of Biology and Psychology of the University of Crete, announce that applications for the Interdepartmental Graduate Program in "Neurosciences" for the academic year 2025 – 2026 are now open. The School of Medicine is responsible for the administration support of the Program.
Aim of the Graduate Program in ‘Neurosciences”
The ‘Neurosciences’ Program offers a comprehensive, state-of-the-art training on Cellular, Molecular, Developmental, Systems, Translational and Clinical Neurosciences. Students are provided with advanced theoretical knowledge and research training and are competently prepared to follow careers in academia, research institutes, public bodies or the private sector internationally.
The ‘Neurosciences’ Program aims to promote graduates with accredited studies in Medicine, Biology, Pharmacy, Psychology, Veterinary Medicine, and Chemistry as well as in any field related to Neuroscience.
Duration of Studies
The Program awards a Master’s Degree (MSc) upon completion of a four-semester studies program (totally 120 ECTS).
During the first two semesters, students are required to complete five (5) mandatory courses and several elective courses. During the third semester, students are required to complete two (2) three-month laboratory rotations, and during the fourth semester, they are required to complete a research thesis (Master Diploma Thesis).
The program requires full-time, mandatory attendance. The official language of the Program is English.
A maximum number of fifteen (15) graduate students will be admitted. Furthermore, up to two (2) applicants who have received a scholarship for graduate students from Governments, Scholarship Foundations, International Bodies, etc. can be additionally admitted, should they meet the necessary requirements.
Application Documents for Submission
Applicants are required to first create a user account at https://postgrad.cict.uoc.gr and then upload the following documents:
1. Certified copy of BSc degree
If the BSc degree is from a higher education institution outside of Greece, recognition by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition Information Centre (DOATAP) is required. According to Law 4957/2022, the initial contact with DOATAP after a candidate applies for postgraduate studies is made by the Program’s Secretariat.
2. Diploma Supplement
Τhe university degrees and the respective diploma supplements shall be written either in Greek (provided that they are issued by a Greek authority) or officially translated in English and certified by a competent authority.
3. Proof of competence and fluency in English language of level B2 or higher (according to the Council of Europe) or alternatively a degree from a Higher Education Institution taught in English.
4. Proof of professional and/or research activity (if available)
5. Motivation Letter in which candidates should effectively describe the reasons and motives for attending the Program.
6. Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the candidate, written in English and including information on studies, academic/professional experience, scientific/social activities, list of publications and scientific work (if available)
7. Two (2) letters of recommendation
8. One recent passport-size photograph

For the Recommendation Letters
1. The Recommendation Letters should be submitted by the referees through the program’s electronic applications platform. The indicated referees will automatically receive an invitation e-mail after the applicants' successful submission of his/her application. The applicant should clearly state in the application form:
a) the e-mail address of the academic institution for each referee
b) the status and complete contact details of the referee
The recommendation letters must be submitted until 9 May 2025 or
2. The Recommendation Letters can be sent by email, directly by the referees at: postgradsecr@med.uoc.gr with the subject: "Recommendation Letter for the applicant of the Graduate Programme in Neurosciences Mr./Mrs./Ms. ......................... " , until 9 May 2025
Criteria for Admission
Applicants will be evaluated according to the following criteria (in a grading scale of 1 to 10, with 10 indicating highest ranking).
In the event of a tie, candidates are accepted as supernumeraries.
Tuition Fees
Tuition fees are set at € 1.000 (Euros) for the total duration of the Program and they are non-refundable.
Payment of fees will be made in three (3) installments:

Booking fee – by mid July 2025 This serves in securing the place after accepting the offer. The booking fee is non-refundable. - 250€
1st Installment - Upon Registration (September 2025) - 250€
2nd Installment (September 2026) - 500€
