Students will engage a number of compulsory and elective curses during the first two semesters, summing uo to a total of 8 biomedical engineering subject. These provide sound preparation for the final project of the MSc, which may be carried out, either on campus or at a collaborating/affiliated institute.

Semester I

  • Biomedical Signal/Image Processing & Modeling (Compulsory – 8 ECTS)
  • Biomaterials (Compulsory – 8 ECTS)
  • Pharmaceutical (Nano-) technology & cosmetology (Compulsory – 8 ECTS)
  • Tissue Biomechanics (Elective – 6 ECTS)
  • Experimental Biomechanics (Elective – 6 ECTS)
  • Bioinformatics (Elective – 6 ECTS)

Semester II

  • Implant design and optimization (Compulsory – 8 ECTS)
  • Grant Writing & Project Management (Elective – 6 ECTS)
  • Bio-Statistics/Big data analysis (Compulsory – 8 ECTS)
  • Bio-printing (Compulsory – 8 ECTS)
  • Bio-Sensors & Advanced Biomedical Signals (Elective – 6 ECTS)
  • Digital Therapeutics (Elective – 6 ECTS)

Semester III

This semester is dedicated to a project, supervised by an MSc staff member (permanent or visiting/invited). The project is an independent study undertaken by the student and results in a Master thesis (30 ECTS), capable of demonstrating the student’s ability to conduct research on a specific topic in biomedical engineering.

Towards this end, the student is expected to:

  • Apply theoretical knowledge acquired throughout the first two semesters
  • Further advance their knowledge through original research & develop additional analytical and practical skills
  • Document their work in a scientifically sound manner
  • Defend their findings through an oral presentation

The successful completion of the thesis requires an oral defense, which is

Entry requirements

The entry requirements for MSc are:

A first-class or upper second-class degree, equivalent of a Bachelor degree in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline. Other related professional qualifications or industrial (or Health related) experience may also be considered.
Sound English language qualifications. Even though there are no particular language skill requirements (e.g. a Lower degree, or equivalent, would suffice for enrollment), students with basic English should be proficient in Greek.
