We are offering an exciting postdoctoral position at the Universitat de Barcelona (as part of theArtificial Intelligence in Medicine lab: BCN-AIM),to develop new algorithms and tools for large-scale and multi-study cancer image quantification. Technical aspects of the project include cancer image segmentation, image radiomics, machine learning, deep learning, image synthesis, AI interpretability and uncertainty estimation. We are thus seeking candidates with a PhD (or equivalent) in an area pertinent to the project, such as applied mathematics, statistics, machine learning, data science, image computing, medical imaging, and/or biomedical informatics. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with strong interests in mathematical and computational applications in biomedicine. Candidates must have excellent teamwork and communication skills and be enthusiastic about their research. The successful candidate is expected to be able to organise his/her work with minimal supervision and prioritise work to meet deadlines of the project. Due to multiple collaborations within the EuCanImage project with consortium partners across Europe and US, advanced oral and writing English knowledge are required. Female applicants are explicitly encouraged to apply.

EuCanImage is a new large-scale international project (10 million Euros) funded by the European Commission to build a secure and federated imaging platform for next-generation artificial intelligence in oncology. The EuCanImage platform will be populated with a new data resource totalling over 25,000 single subjects, which will allow to investigate unmet clinical needs like never before, such as for the detection of small liver lesions and metastases of colorectal cancer, or for estimating molecular subtypes of breast tumours and pathological complete response. Moreover, the cancer imaging platform, built by leveraging the well-established Euro-BioImaging infrastructure, will be cross-linked to biological and health repositories through the European Genome-phenome Archive, allowing to develop multi-scale AI solutions that integrate organ-level, molecular and other clinical predictors into dense patient-specific cancer fingerprints. EuCanImage is a collaboration between world-renown experts in data management, machine learning, cancer imaging/radiomics, clinical oncology and technology transfer, across Europe and the US.

The University of Barcelona (UB), founded in 1450, is one of the oldest universities in Spain. It comprises a student body of 84,370 and 4,548 research staff members. With 73 undergraduate programs, 273 graduate programs and 48 doctorate programs, UB is the largest university in Barcelona and Catalonia. The UB is ranked the first Spanish university according to several rankings (QS World University Rankings 2018, ARWU/Shanghai Ranking 2018). It is particularly interested in fostering international relations and, for many years, has managed an average of 150 European projects per year. Since January 2010, Universitat de Barcelona is part of the prestigious League of European Universities Research (LERU). The selected candidate will join the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Lab at the University of Barcelona (BCN-AIM), a young and dynamic research group that is aiming to develop the next-generation of technologies that will improvemedicine and health through big data-enabled AI.
