Πανεπιστήμιο Δυτικής Αττικής: Biomedical Engineering and Technology (2025-2026)

The MSc in “Biomedical Engineering and Technology” is a 1.5-year postgraduate program (90  ECTS) conducted in English by the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the University of  West Attica, Greece. 

Target group:  
Individuals holding a Bachelor's (B.Sc.) degree in engineering, technology, life sciences, health sciences, or related fields, who seek a career change in Biomedical Engineering. 

Program’s goals:  

  • a/ to intensively introduce the science of biomedical engineering, 
  • b/ to develop problem-solving skills, 
  • c/ to actively engage with the biomedical engineering industry, 
  • d/ to prepare students for Ph.D. studies. 

Teaching staff: 

  • Invited professors from 8 different Universities (Greece, Portugal, Spain, Romania, Germany, UK, USA), 
  • Invited Researchers from biomedical engineering research facilities, 
  • Invited Biomedical Engineers from the labor market. 

Special cooperation agreement with the University of Plymouth, UK 

Students have the option to spend one semester at the University of Plymouth, UK, under  privileged terms and conditions. They can earn a second MSc diploma in 'Medical Engineering' alongside the MSc diploma in 'Biomedical Engineering and Technology' from UniWA. For more information, visit the official program website.

Student registration: 15-26 October 2025, physical presence mandatory, there is no online registration option available

English language test: 08 October 2025, 12:00 (Athens time) (online). Only for those who do not hold at least B2 level English certification.

Studies start: November 2025 (the weekly schedule for the 1st semester will be announced in November 2025)

Duration: 1.5 years (3 academic semesters), 90 ECTS

Course attendance: full-time, compulsory, some courses are delivered online, while others require physical presence. Each semester, the final month is dedicated to on-campus activities, including laboratory sessions, site visits, and examinations.

Teaching language: English

Tuition fees: 2000 € The fees are payable in three instalments as follows:

  • 1st instalment: 1,000 € – payable upon the announcement of the successful candidates’ results, during the student registration period. Registration is considered valid only after payment of this instalment 2.
  • 2nd instalment: 500 € – payable by 30/11/2025.
  • 3rd instalment: 500 € – payable by 12/12/2025.

2If the minimum number of registered students is not met, the program will not be organized. In such a scenario, the first installment will be refunded, and students will be notified after the deadline for the first installment.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

According to the study regulations, the MSc program will be organized provided that the minimum number of participants, which is 10 students, is reached. In the event that the MSc program is not conducted due to failure to meet the minimum required number of students, the tuition fee installments already paid by the newly enrolled students shall be refunded.

Required documents

  1. Undergraduate/bachelor degree certification (compulsory)
  2. Transcript of records including the list of the courses’ grades (compulsory)
  3. Academic recognition of the Undergraduate/bachelor degree by the Hellenic National Recognition and Information Center (NARIC/DOATAP) (if any, only for holders of non-Greek University degrees)
  4. English language certification, at least B2 (compulsory) or application for written and oral English exam (compulsory) (The English language test for applicants that do not hold B2 or higher English language certification will be organized during September 2023. Exact dates will be announced together with the evaluation results)
  5. CV according to the Europass template (max 3 pages) (compulsory)
  6. Motivation letter (max 2 pages) (Tell us at least the following: a/ why you would like to study biomedical engineering, b/ what do you expect to achieve after the completion of the program, c/ why did you select our MSc program, d/ why should you be selected for this program) (compulsory)
  7. Recommendation letters (at least 2) (The recommendation letters should be submitted electronically by the referral before the application deadline. You may find the submission link for recommendation letters at the online application submission webpage – see section 5 below) (compulsory)
  8. Scanned copy of ID (for Greek citizens), passport (for EU and non-EU citizens) (compulsory)
  9. Face photograph (compulsory)
  10. Undergraduate/bachelor degree thesis (optional)
  11. Related to biomedical engineering research activity (optional)
  12. Related to biomedical engineering professional activity (optional)
  13. Related to biomedical engineering internship(s) (optional)
  14. Other related to biomedical engineering activity (optional)

Please note that documents 1, 2, 3 and 4 should be validated (stamp + signature from the issuing organization) and translated in English or Greek. If the original validated documents are issued in English or Greek, no translation is required.

A scanned copy of documents 1, 2, 3 and 4 is sufficient for the online application. Only successful candidates will be asked to present the original validated and translated (if needed) documents during the student registration period in October 2025.

Important info for interested applicants who are currently undergraduate students expected to complete  their studies before the beginning of the MSc Program in October 2025 

Applicants who are currently undergraduate students and are expected to complete their studies  before the start of the MSc Program in October 2025 are eligible to apply for admission. Applicants  falling into this category must include with their application a certificate issued by the relevant  Secretariat of their Bachelor program outlining all pending tasks required to complete their degree. Successful applicants from this group must submit their graduation certificate during the student registration period before the commencement of the MSc Program in October 2025.

Announcement of results

Eligible candidates will be called for online personal interviews from 06-08 October 2025 (online) 3 . Final evaluation results will be announced at the MSc program’s website 13-15 October 2025 (applicants will be notified by email). Evaluation criteria are described in details at https://bmet.uniwa.gr/admissions/.
