Το Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας ανακοινώνει την απονομή εννέα (9) υποτροφιών εξ αποστάσεως αγγλόφωνο μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα MA in Greek Civilization (Ελληνικός Πολιτισμός), για το Χειμερινό Εξάμηνο 2022.

Το Πρόγραμμα καλύπτει το κύριο σώμα του ελληνικού πολιτισμού προσφέροντας στους φοιτητές και τις φοιτήτριες μία μοναδική εκπαιδευτική ευκαιρία για μια εις βάθος μελέτη, μέσω εξειδικευμένης βιβλιογραφίας στα αγγλικά, επί ενός ευρέος φάσματος θεμάτων. Τα μαθήματα βασίζονται σε θεματικό υλικό από πολυάριθμους κλάδους του ελληνικού πολιτισμού όπως ιστορία, φιλοσοφία, λογοτεχνία, επιστήμη, τέχνες και γλώσσα. Επιπλέον, οι φοιτητές και οι φοιτήτριες θα καταπιαστούν με θέματα που προσελκύουν διεθνές ενδιαφέρον, καθώς συνδυάζουν πτυχές της ελληνικής αρχαιότητας με τον σύγχρονο πολιτισμό, όπως σύγχρονες σκηνικές προσεγγίσεις αρχαίου δράματος, σύγχρονος ελληνικός κινηματογράφος, ιστορία του ελληνικού εντύπου και ψηφιακός πολιτισμός.

Το Πρόγραμμα προορίζεται για υποψηφίους και υποψήφιες που επιθυμούν να σταδιοδρομήσουν στους τομείς των Ανθρωπιστικών Επιστημών και των Τεχνών και φιλοδοξούν να συμμετάσχουν ενεργά στην έρευνα και την εκπαίδευση στο επιστημονικό πεδίο του ελληνικού πολιτισμού, ή σχεδιάζουν να εντρυφήσουν περαιτέρω, σε διδακτορικό επίπεδο.

The University of Nicosia announces the the award of 9 scholarships for the MA in Greek Civilization (English, Distance Learning Programme) of the University of Nicosia for the Fall 2022 Semester.

About the Programme

  • School: School of Humanities and Social Sciences

  • Application Deadline: Since the MA program has a rolling admissions policy, scholarships are reviewed and awarded monthly, in conjunction with admissions decisions

The MA programme in Greek Civilization is unique in the humanities and the arts, offering a holistic immersion into the multifaceted phenomenon of Greek Civilization. It is not delimited into rigidly defined scientific disciplines but combines them under the curriculum of Cultural Studies, with a special focus on contemporary social reality and the intellectual achievements of Hellenism. It is the only MA programme in Greek Civilization, with this specific content, on an international level.

About the Scholarships

  • Odysseus Scholarship

Named after the legendary Greek hero and king of Ithaca, renowned for his genius and resourcefulness, his long journeys overseas and famous for his “nostos”, his adventurous homecoming. Odysseus is an ecumenical symbol of the expatriate Greek, who struggles and survives overcoming all obstacles.

Eligibility: Students of Greek descent (up to third generation).

  • Georgios Seferis Scholarship

Named after the celebrated Greek poet and Nobel laureate, whose life and work are closely connected to the island of Cyprus.

Eligibility: Students with strong academic records in the field of humanities and social sciences. In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must hold an exceptional track record of notable academic achievements (criteria which will be taken into account: high degree grade, additional postgraduate studies, thesis, papers in conferences, published articles, creative writing, relevant professional experience, awards, scholarships, distinctions, participation in Erasmus programme etc). You will become a Greek Civilization ambassador and you will be expected to work 15 hours per month on outreach.

  • Michael Cacoyannis Scholarship

Named after the internationally acclaimed Cypriot film maker, theatre director and translator whose outstanding work highlighted classical and modern Greek civilization around the world.

Eligibility: Students with strong records in the field of the performing arts and cinema. In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must hold an exceptional track record of artistic skills and achievements either as artistic creator or as a performer or as curator/advisor in the field of theatre, opera, music, dance, cinema as well as contemporary types of performance. You will become a Greek Civilization ambassador and you will be expected to spend 15 hours per month on outreach and research.

  • Hypatia Scholarship

Named after the prominent woman scientist and philosopher of Late Antiquity, who stood for free thinking, tolerance, reason and the unbiased search for the truth.

Eligibility: Students with strong research records in the field of humanities, social sciences and the arts who are capable and interested in working on outreach or research assistant activities during their studies. In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must hold an exceptional track record of notable academic achievements (criteria which will be taken into account: high degree grade, additional postgraduate or PhD studies, thesis, papers in conferences, published articles, participation in research teams or projects, awards, scholarships, distinctions, etc). You will become a Greek Civilization ambassador and you will be expected to spend 15 hours per month on outreach and research.

  • Philothea Scholarship

Named after the emblematic figure of Saint Philothea of Athens who is primarily remembered for her philanthropy. She founded monasteries, gave shelter to the poor and organized educational programmes for the most vulnerable social groups in the Ottoman Empire.

Eligibility: Students with financial need are eligible to apply for this need-based scholarship award. In order to be considered for this scholarship, students need to provide evidence of financial need, such as an income statement.
Type: need-based
Amount: 20% to 70%

  • Aristanax Scholarship

Named after the 2nd century B.C. eminent Cypriot philosopher, Aristanax of Salamis, a Platonist who studied with Carneades of Cyrene. His name means Lord of Excellence.

Eligibility: Graduates of the University of Nicosia, holding any degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate) in any discipline. In order to be considered for this scholarship, students need to provide their UNIC Student ID number.
Type: degree-based
Amount: 10%

Scholarship Terms

  • Scholarship applications are reviewed monthly. Applications must be submitted by the last day of the month to be eligible for that month’s review.
  • Only students who have completed their programme application and have been officially accepted are eligible to submit a scholarship application.
  • Students are eligible to apply for more than one type of Scholarship/Financial Aid but they will be awarded the scholarship constituting the highest amount.
  • Scholarships are applied on a pro-rata basis to each course in the programme.
  • The University of Nicosia reserves the right, at its sole discretion to award or not award any scholarship to any student and/or to change the number of scholarships awarded, their eligibility requirements or any other aspect of the financial aid program.
