Προκήρυξη:

The University of Duisburg-Essen offers within the DFG-funded Research Training Group 1739 (RTG1739)

12 PhD positions (f/m) – E 13 TV-L, 65%
Starting April 1st, 2018

The RTG1739 “Molecular determinants of the cellular radiation response and their potential for response modulation” offers outstanding internationally-oriented interdisciplinary scientific training and research opportunities for graduates of life sciences and medicine with interest in basic and translational cancer research. The exciting research projects aim to achieve a better molecular understanding of key molecules that determine the cellular response to ionizing radiation and thus radiation sensitivity with the goal of providing a scientific basis for effective response modulation. Furthermore, the anglophone programme provides a comprehensive multidisciplinary training in radiation biology and oncology, molecular and cell biology, and experimental medicine. It will also cover complementary professional competencies, such as presentation skills, scientific writing, bioethics, scientific integrity, and career planning. Together with regular supervision and mentoring, this training will allow its graduates to efficiently develop into independent scientists with broad knowledge in biomedical sciences and specialized knowledge in radiation biology and radiation oncology.

The following institutes are involved in the RTG:

  • Institute of Medical Radiation Biology (University Hospital Essen)
  • Department of Radiotherapy (University Hospital Essen)
  • Department of Molecular Cell Biology (University Hospital Essen)
  • Department of Medical Oncology (University Hospital Essen)
  • Department of Molecular Biology (University Hospital Essen)
  • Institute of Physiology (University Hospital Essen)
  • Department of Molecular Biology I and II (University of Duisburg Essen)
  • Department of Molecular Genetics II (University of Duisburg Essen)
  • Institute for Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology (University Hospital Düsseldorf)

Details about the Research Training Group and the different projects can be found at: http://www.uni-due.de/med/forschung/grk1739/index.shtml

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with strong Masters degree (or equivalent) in the field of Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Experimental Medicine able to work independently that have a strong interest in the above-mentioned research fields as well as high motivation and commitment for active participation in the program of the RTG. Depending on the project, work with laboratory animals may be obligatory so that certificates that enable handling of animal experiments could be a plus. Candidates are selected on the basis of excellent performance in their studies and their motivation. Candidates should be fluent in spoken and written English; knowledge of German is not a requirement. The positions will be available in April 2018 for up to three years.

Interested candidates should fill in the application form available at https://www.uni-due.de/med/forschung/grk1739/jobs.php and send it together with the copy of all university degrees and the indication of two referees in one pdf-file to:

Dr. Gabriele Siedenburg
Scientific Coordination Research Training Group 1739
E-Mail: gabriele.siedenburg@uni-due.de

Deadline for application is November 12, 2017. Interviews will be presumably held from December 4-5, 2017 in Essen or via videoconference.
