Αμειβόμενες θέσεις για PhD στο Institute of Systems Biotechnology, Saarland University (Γερμανία)

Προκήρυξη:

We are a leading international research institute of Saarland University in the heart of Europe, close to France and Luxemburg. Headed by Prof. Dr. Christoph Wittmann, our team of dedicated scientists works on systems biology, systems biotechnology and systems metabolic engineering and designs tailor-made cell factories and bioprocesses for industrial applications. We provide cutting-edge platforms for systems-wide omics analysis of microbes (including transcriptome, fluxome, and metabolome) and their genomic engineering, highly-equipped bioprocessing laboratories for cultivation, as well as software tools for modeling and simulation. We are partners in a number of collaborative projects and cooperate globally with institutes and industrial companies.

Our offer
We offer 3 PhD positions (TVL E13 50%, fixed term contract 3 years), dedicated to systems metabolic engineering of industrial microorganisms. The positions are open from May 1 2018. The following topics are available

  • Systems metabolic engineering of Streptomyces for antibiotics production (Ref. W1331)
  • Systems metabolic engineering of Streptomyces for polyketide production (Ref. W1332)
  • Systems metabolic engineering of Corynebacterium glutamicum using CRISPR/Cas9 technology (Ref. W1333)

Your role
Within the project you will conduct multi-omics analysis, use the data to identify and implement targets for genomic strain engineering to overproduce high-value compounds, and test the strains at lab-scale. You will contribute to the development of an innovative value chain to derive novel industrial and pharmaceutical products, using programmed cell factories of Streptomyces or Corynebacteria. You will present and publish the data at international meetings and in high-impact scientific journals. In particular, you will apply the following techniques:

  • Metabolic strain engineering
  • Metabolic network reconstruction and modelling
  • Multi-omics analysis, including metabolomics, fluxomics and transcriptomics, data integration and target prediction
  • Lab-scale fermentation processes and strain characterization

Your profile

  • Very good master degree in biotechnology, bioengineering or a related field with a solid background in quantitative bioengineering
  • Out-going personality and excellent teamwork skills
  • High self-motivation and passion for science
  • Excellent communication skills; including English language

The next step is yours. Work contract and salary will accord to the respective collective agreement, i.e. TV-L. Saarland University aims to increase the number of women in this field. Therefore, women are encouraged to apply for this posit ion. Physically handicapped persons will be preferred in case equally qualified. We look forward to receiving your online application including a letter of motivation, CV, transcripts, and contact details of 2 referees. Please refer to your preferred topic (reference W1331, W1332 or W1333) in your application. Closing date for applications is March 22 2018. Please submit your application as a single PDF file to biotechnologie@uni-saarland.de.
