General Description
Demosthenes Mitrossilis is seeking for a highly motivated and ambitious future PhD candidate. She/He should start with a training leading to a funded phd - “ Role of mechanical forces in development and cancer ”.
The program aims to understand the interplay between biochemical and mechanical signaling in the self-organization of living matter, in particular during development and cancer. Deciphering how mechanical cues are transduced into biochemical signal in living system, is essential on understanding the principles of tissue homeostasisand thus on improving modern medicine. Hence, the research project aims at pushing further the understanding of how mechanical forces modulate cellular functions involved in embryo development and cancer initiation by applying an interdisciplinary research approach combining genetics, quantitative imaging and biophysics in the model organism of Drosophila and of the Acinar epithelium.

For the PhD position, a BSc/MSc in Natural Sciences is required (biology or physics or Engineering). Ideally the candidate should do a Master thesis or an equivalent training period.
Host Lab: The project will be handled in the BRFAA (IBEEA) in Dr Christos Zervas laboratory. The scientist responsible/ supervisor is Dr Demosthenes Mitrossilis.
For informal enquiries please contact Dr Demosthenes Mitrossilis at dmitrossilis@bioacademy.gr

Expression of interest

Interested candidates should send their CV and a motivation
letter explaining why would they like to join the project. Please send a CV and a cover letter (motivation letter) at dmitrossilis@bioacademy.gr
Deadline: Please send the expression of interest up to December 2020.
